Phoenix Lodge #131 F. & A.M.

What is Phoenix Lodge?

Phoenix Lodge is a special group of men and masons who are linked together by an indissoluble bond. We strive to promote one anothers well being and are always there for a worthy, distressed Brother. If you have ever had the chance of spending time at Phoenix Lodge you will notice the friendship between the members there. There is never a shortage of charity, fellowship, and even a little comedy entertainment at Phoenix Lodge meetings. Charity however, is our main purpose. Freemasons all across the world give more money to charities than any other organization. Masons have many charities and the Masonic Affiliated Bodies listed below are paired with their main charities:

Grand Chapter of RAM's in TN..............................................................................Royal Arch Research Assistance

Grand Council of CM's in TN............................................................Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation

Grand Commandery of KT's in TN..........................................................................Knights Templar Eye Foundation

Scottish Rite..........................................................................................................Nashville Scottish Rite Foundation

Al Menah Shrine...............................................................................................................Shrine Children's Hospitals

Tall Cedars of Lebanon...............................................................................................Muscular Dystrophy Research

Eastern Star..................................................................................................................................................ESTARL

Grand Lodge of Tennessee..............................................................................Masonic Widows and Orphans Fund

"The life of a man consists not in seeing visions or dreaming dreams, but in active charity and in willing service."

While these are the charities of masons across the state of Tennessee and even the world, the charities of Phoenix Lodge are quite wide reaching as well. Phoenix Lodge has a Charity Committee whose job is to receive requests for aid and look into the validity of those requests. They then report to the Lodge at a Stated Meeting their findings and their recommendation of how Phoenix Lodge and its members can help. Phoenix Lodge always supports the Widow's and Children of deceased Brothers. But we also help in the community by funding construction of playgrounds, supporting local children's organizations, and much more. If you know of anyone or of any organization that could use assistance (financial or physical help) please contact our Charity Committee for more information.

"The Red Coats Are Coming"

Phoenix Lodge is well known for it's ability to make its Officers stand out in a crowd. The Red Coats are given to a member of Phoenix Lodge when he is appointed into the line, in other words when he is made an Officer of the Lodge. It is required dress code for all Officers to wear during Stated Meetings and Degrees in non-summer months. The Red Coats are also given to Honorary Members of Phoenix Lodge in token of our appreciation. The Red Coats were first established during the year of Opie Sory's term as WM in 1997. After a committee was formed they reported that they recommended red for the color of the blazers to be symbolic of that fire of the Phoenix, "that fire which burns so that she may live."
